Roger Black MBE

Olympic Medalist & two time World Champion

Roger Black is one of the country’s most successful sportsmen having represented Great Britain for fourteen years at the highest level in the world of athletics. Born in Portsmouth on 31 March 1966, Roger was educated at Portsmouth Grammar School and subsequently went on to read medicine at Southampton University. He is particularly admired for his triumphs over adversity, overcoming serious injuries and a rare heart valve condition to become a world champion.

Sporting Profile
Roger won fifteen major Championship Medals including European, Commonwealth and World Championship Gold Medals. His greatest achievements were winning the Olympic 400m Silver Medal in 1996 and being part of the Gold Medal winning 4 x 400m relay team at the 1991 World Championships. He was British Men’s Team Captain and was awarded the MBE in 1992.

 Television
Roger has presented for BBC South, BBC Breakfast News, BBC 6 o’clock News and News 24. In 1998, he was signed to BBC Sport and presented the Sydney 2000 Olympics, the World Athletics Championships 2001 in Canada, the 2002 Commonwealth Games, the 2002 European Championships from Vienna and the World Championships from Paris 2003.

Roger regularly appears on prime-time programmes such as A Question of Sport, They Think It’s All Over, Strictly Come Dancing, Celebrity Master Chef and GMTV. He co-presented the last series of Tomorrow’s World and four series of the BBC’s award-winning CityHospital. He also appeared in the new series of Superstars and most recently on Celebrity Mastermind.

Motivational Speaking & Training
Still one of the UK’s most popular speakers, Roger inspires and motivates audiences throughout the UK and Europe – he understands the dynamics of becoming a champion, how to live a dream, set goals and fulfil ones potential. Along with fellow Olympian and business partner Steve Backley, Roger also looks at performance. Put simply, their vision is to… Transfer Olympic performance into the workplace.
