Strategic Manager Artswork - Kent
Lucy Medhurst became Artswork’s Strategic Manager for the Kent area in October 2013. Following a degree in Art History and Italian, Lucy studied for an MA in Arts and Cultural Management. She was previously Head of Education for Stour Valley Arts (SVA) for eight years, where she developed a high quality education programme in response to site specific commissions, including "Marks Measures Maps and Mind” with South East Dance and Turner Contemporary and Matthew King’s "King’s Wood Symphony” with Wigmore Hall and Trinity Guildhall. She was Acting Director through a period of transition for SVA into gaining National Portfolio Organisation status. Lucy designed and developed the Down Time five-year action-research training project; part of the national Chances 4 Change initiative, focusing on wellbeing. Her research is published as Science Nature and Identity – Understanding the Value of Experiential Learning in a Land Art Context . She is currently a governor of Godinton Primary school in Ashford and a Co Director of Outdoor Studios CIC.
How Arts Subjects can Improve Your School –The Evidence Base
A squeeze on school budgets and the introduction of the EBacc are putting arts subjects under pressure in schools. Research shows that schools with strong arts programmes perform better overall. This workshop will explore the critical contribution that the arts play to the well-being of students and achievement in STEM subjects. Inviting school leaders to help illustrate the workshop, we will talk about why and how the arts can contribute to the success of a healthy happy school.
